CUNO Europe SA introduce the new Zeta Plus VR Series of viral reduction depth filters which use the combination of ion exchange and physical entrapment virus removal mechanisms. The filters’ nominal retentionratings are 0.2 to 0.8 micron and every grade is quality control tested for the presence
and magnitude of positive charge. The efficiency and quality of the media offer high flow rates and scalability for applications ranging from millilitre laboratory volumes to production scale cGMP operations. CUNO offer these filters validated for viral retention by providing supporting data, validation support, regulatory accreditation and comprehensive technical support capabilities. As a single-use, self contained capsule or cartridge, Zeta Plus VR gains advantage over alternative re-usable options such as chromatographic columns, by eliminating the risk of virus ‘carry-over’ from one purification cycle to the next. As well as replacing or augmenting chromatographic columns, Zeta Plus VR will function as a pre-filter to a final virus removal filter, as used in TFF Membrane technology. Circle

The Multifuge line was designed by Kendro Laboratory Products to meet the consistently growing demand for high sample throughput in biotechnology, bioresearch and clinical applications. A swinging bucket rotor and a windshield rotor offer the highest tube capacity and RCF values. This enables an increased sample throughput of up to four times greater than traditional models. The wide range of adapters offer unmatched versatility for compatibility with the most common tubes and a new carrier system offers an outstanding capacity of 16 to 28 plates per run.

Etio-Tek instruments have recently introduced the MicroTec DS dynamic microplate spectrophotometer. With its dual base optics and single channel reading it combines the precision of a traditional spectrophotometer with the convenience of multiple microplate. It supports multiple plate fonats and where spectrophotometry with incubation is required the MicroTek DS has one of the most efficient temperature control designs available in a microplate reader. The latest sequences from published patents are now available in a dedicated database with the launch of GENESEQ FASTAlert from Derwent Information. This is a totally unique weekly current awareness service of patent sequence information. GENESECI FASTAlert is updated with nucleic and amino acid sequences from patents within just two weeks of publication. The database is available in FASTA format for easy integration into in-house bioinformatics systems and is ideally used as a filter to check the novelty of specific sequences, so enabling a rapid response in the direction research takes. Schleicher & Schuell introduce their new ULTRAN range of membrane cassettes, which combine the benefits of high product recovery rates with easy cleaning. They also feature significantly improved cassette configuration. The membrane substrate and screens are made of chemically inert polyoletin. By using the same material, the number of related materials is reduced and this improves the dimensional stability of the cassettes, particularly when operating at higher temperatures. The cassettes can be used on any existing stainless steel hardware. number

PLUS from NEN Life Science Products is a scintillant-coated, 96.well microplate which uses patented technology to enable the attachment of lipid substrates to the FlashPlate surface, providing a biologically natural environment for the substrate to bind. This allows for the quantitative and qualitative determination of the activity of various enzymes that act on membrane-bound substrates, without the need for organic extraction. It is easier to use and more costeffective than traditional assays where organic extraction is required, and provides more reproducible and dependable results.
