Ltd.,

Fish farming today has two aspects: that of a capital intensive industry backed by biological and engineering technology producing luxury foods, and that of labour intensive traditional culture producing much needed protein largely for local consumption. This journal is mainly concerned with the former. The articles, conference reports and news items constitute a progress review of the development of industrial fish farming and the research, pilot .ventures and theoretical studies undertaken in many countries to assess its potential. Subject matter is weighted towards salmonid production and experimental mariculture, though there are some regional surveys and a useful table of global farm fish production. Signed articles are by writers of international repute, new items are well presented, photographs are good, and the standard of production is high. The journal will interest scientists, technologists, administrators and industrialists rather than practical fish farmers. There is no indication of the frequency of publication; at this price it had better-not be too often. A.B. BOWERS Marine Biological Station, Port Erin, Isle of Man (U.K.)
