Textbook of Gastrointestinal Radiology (in 2 vols), edited by Richard M. Gore, Marc S. Levine, and Igor Laufer, 2,890 pp, with illus, $295, Philadelphia, W. B. Saunders Company (telephone: 800-545-2522), 1994, ISBN 0-7216-3977-1 Type of Book: A multiauthored text that discusses all aspects of imaging of the entire gastrointestinal (GI) system. Scope of Book: A comprehensive, well-written, up-to-date radiologic and pathologic review of all diseases of the GI system. Contents: This book thoroughly covers all aspects of the radiologie evaluation of the GI tract including image interpretation, imaging techniques, and radiologie-pathologie correlation of the gut, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, biliary tract, and spleen. Sections that pertain to pédiatrie GI diseases complement the text. The book concludes with sections that discuss common clinical problems (for example, jaundice, acute abdomen, and dysphagia) and those with multiorgan involvement (for example, lymphoma, diabetes, and AIDS). Strengths: The quality and variety of the numerous images are superb. Some chapters are devoted to tables of differential diagnoses and radiographie findings. The text is well written and well referenced. This two-volume series is the most comprehensive text available on GI radiology. Deficiencies: Minimal repetition is evident in some discussions of diseases. Recommended Audience: Diagnostic radiologists, gastroenterologists, general surgeons, residents, and medical students. It should be available in radiography educational programs. Overall Grading: • • • • • Claire E. Bender, M.D., Department of Diagnostic Mayo Clinic Rochester, Rochester, Minnesota
