Conclusions: Clinical experience and research support the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of CFF-CBT in the treatment of bipolar spectrum disorders in youth. This Workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to be trained in the delivery of CFF-CBT/RAINBOW to enhance their clinical practice with this complex, understudied clinical population.

WORKSHOP 8 THE COLLABORATIVE CARE MODEL FOR INTEGRATED MENTAL HEALTH PRACTICE IN THE PEDIATRIC PRIMARY CARE SETTING: KEY SKILLS AND APPROACHES FOR CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRISTS Barry Sarvet, MD, University of Massachusetts - Baystate, [email protected]; Anna Ratzliff, MD, PhD, University of Washington, [email protected] Objectives: Child and adolescent psychiatrists are uniquely positioned to improve access to effective mental health care in the context of rapidly evolving healthcare reform. The objective of this symposium is to provide evidence-based training in integrated care for members of AACAP. The APA (Psychiatry) in partnership with the AIMS Center at the University of Washington has received a grant to train 3,500 psychiatrists in the clinical and leadership skills needed to support primary care practices that are implementing integrated behavioral health programs. Methods: The presenters will use a combination of didactic methods along with role plays and breakout sessions to teach collaborative care skills for providing integrated mental health care in pediatric settings. Participants will learn how to work with a collaborative team to screen, assess, and deliver measurement-based care for a defined panel of patients in the pediatric primary care setting. Results: Training in the Collaborative Care Model will include Population Health management; use of registries and real-time clinical outcome data; telephonic, televideo, and caseload-focused psychiatric consultation methods; skill development for coordinating with a primary care team; and use of evidence-based methods for managing children and adolescents with common mental health conditions in primary care. Conclusions: Child and adolescent psychiatrists play a vital role in implementing the collaborative care model of integrated behavioral health practice. The proposed workshop is designed to provide an introductory level of training in the core skills needed for practice within this model.

Results: It is hoped that the information provided by the workshop and interactive discussion of these difficult and treatment refractory children and adolescents will improve the care of the participants’ most challenging patients. Conclusions: Clozapine remains the gold standard for patients with treatment refractory schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and mood disorders with psychosis and severe aggression in both the adult and child/adolescent patient population. This workshop will share the research and clinical experience in treating this patient population, with the goal of increasing the use of clozapine and augmentation strategies in inpatient, residential, day treatment, and outpatient settings.

This workshop aims to provide practitioners with information on neuropsychological assessment, including components of an evaluation, when to make a referral, and implications of results for treatment and follow-up interventions. Methods: Information will be disseminated through a PowerPoint presentation using a combination of lecture, demonstration of neuropsychological tasks, case presentation, and discussion formats. Results: Participants will be able to explain the comprehensive nature of the evaluation, outline and validate reasons for neuropsychological assessment referral, and integrate recommendations into ongoing practice. Conclusions: Participants will have a more comprehensive understanding of the meaning of the results provided in neuropsychological evaluations, which will allow them to collaborate in the design of recommendations, more fully participate in collaborative care, and support the implementation of added interventions and recommendations across home, school, and community settings.

WORKSHOP 9 THE USE OF CLOZAPINE IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH TREATMENT-RESISTANT PSYCHOSIS Harvey N. Kranzler, MD, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, [email protected] Objectives: The goal of this session is to help attendees feel more comfortable with the use and management of clozapine in children and adolescents with treatment-resistant psychoses. Methods: This session includes a didactic PowerPoint presentation on the indications for the use of clozapine, the management of side effects, and augmentation strategies. Clinical case presentations will be enhanced by ongoing interactive questions and discussions with workshop participants with regard to specific clinical concerns about their own patients.
